City’s cultural festival postponed

Community Link

The organising committee behind Whanganui’s much-loved Fest of Cultural Unity has decided to postpone this year’s event due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation. Mainstreet Whanganui’s community liaison Geoff Follett says the committee had been holding out hope the Fest could go ahead on the planned date of Saturday, October 16. However, with yesterday’s announcement of alert level 2 conditions being extended, they’ve had to make the tough call to postpone it. “We’ve been putting in a lot of mahi behind the scenes and we were all really looking forward to this year’s Fest. But ultimately, given the popularity of the event, we knew we could only really go ahead under alert level 1 conditions.” Geoff says the committee is now looking at rescheduling to March 2022.
