Lakes District Health Board staff are gearing up for Super Saturday at Taupo¯ ’s Covid-19 Community Vaccination Centre in Totara St this weekend and hope to administer 1000 vaccinations on the day. A Lakes District Health Board spokesperson said the centre would be open from 8am to 6pm to both booked appointments and people walking in without an appointment. To celebrate Super Saturday, the Taupo¯ Covid-19 vaccination hub will also have lots of giveaways and prizes, a barbecue on site, coffee and Mr Whippy. Bring your family and friends, join in the fun and help protect yourself, your loved ones and the community. As well as the vaccination centre in Taupo¯, there will be a drivethrough vaccination event in Tu¯ rangi at the carpark opposite the Tu¯ rangi Community Health Centre from 10am to 4.45pm. Tu¯ wharetoa FM will be on site. Century 21 Tu¯ rangi are showing their support for the kaupapa, offering seven prezzie card draws and a free sausage sizzle to everyone vaccinated on the day. Amplify and Pihanga Health are also asking other local organisations for their support to encourage more people to be vaccinated, especially those in the 12 to 35 age bracket, to help move the total number of vaccinated people in the area above 5000. You can help by providing small vouchers such as fuel, phone or grocery vouchers, incentive items, and prize draws that will appeal to the 12 to 30 age group or first-time vaccinators. Other ideas are to pledge a donation to a particular charity for everyone receiving a vaccination on the day or provide volunteers to support medical teams. Music, entertainment, giveaways and stickers will all help add to the festive atmosphere. If you can’t make it on Saturday, there will be drive-through vaccinations at the Taupo¯ Events Centre carpark on Tuesday, October 19 from 9am to 6pm.
