The five floral art clubs, which make up the Thames Valley Floral Art Area, met for a day of “Fun, Fellowship and Frivolity”. The day was hosted by the Morrinsville Floral Art Club at the Tatuanui Hall on July 7. The overall floral theme for the day was Winter Intrigue, with each of the five classes having a separate title. As well as these show-bench titles, each club entered a Club Design — the title this time being Shimmering Patterns. The Katikati Floral Art Group took out first place for their design, created by Helen Heller and Diane Pocock. The main plant material used in the design was Asteria Silver Spear which created a beautiful shimmer effect. Diane also won first place in the senior class with her interpretation of the title Rugged Isolation. In the afternoon, members and visitors were entertained by Maria Baxter, a very talented Auckland floral designer. Her stunning designs utilised a wide variety of materials in very interesting and creative ways and concluded a very successful area day.
