Ten members were welcomed to St Mark’s Church Hall, remembering Helen Eastlake and Venus’ sister. A letter from Otawhao-Takapau WI’s English link was read, and birthday cards and sprays given to Muries, Chris and Hazel. The roll call was treats for the Takapau Health Centre nurses. Mary asked members if they were interested in going to Abba impersonators when they come to Waipawa, but it was decided the event was too far ahead to commit to. The social day is on August 11. Wakarara will be hosting it at the Senior Citizens’ Hall in Waipawa. The Federation seat, made by Taylor Made Gates, is being blessed at 9am on June 28 at Nelly Jull Park, Waipawa. Mary presented her delegates report from conference. The new national president is Jude Vaughan from Mid Canterbury Federation and two new members are Adrienne Allen from South Auckland and Jessie Hopkinson from North Canterbury Federation. Six members from throughout New Zealand were presented with Gold Honour Awards. Guest speakers Ranjna Patel spoke on family violence and Dorothy Fletch on cerebral palsy. All remits were passed. Conference competitions: Two Otawhao-Takapau WI members received 2nd placings; Hazel Knight for a drawstring bag and OtawhaoTakapau’s junior member for her insect box.
